Leigh Ann - Disability: Heart Defect
At 20 weeks, it was discovered that the left chamber of her heart had not formed. She required multiple surgeries and interventions throughout her life, starting immediately after birth. After 8 months in the hospital, she was finally able to go, but had to undergo two open heart surgeries and have a feeding tube placed. She faced several medical issues and scares along the way, including spending a month in the hospital after her third open heart surgery at age 4. She now sees her cardiologist and pulmonologist every 3 months and has a home health nurse who administers medications and checks in daily. She wanted a trip with her Family :) Her family is going on a Disney Cruise together this year!
Braxton Disability: CHD Heart Defect
Braxton was born with a complex heart defect. His first open heart surgery was a 2 weeks old. He later had 2 more surgeries. In dec 2023 we found out he was really sick (heart and liver were failing and he was losing protein). We were told he would need surgery again! He went to surgery on 1/17. He came home on 2/16 but just returned to school on 3/18 after a long recovery. He still needs one more(final) surgery later this year or early next year. He goes to weekly dr appts with lab work and chest xrays. He takes lots of meds and he gets tired very easily. He’s slowly returning to his normal self and routine. Such and Inspiration to his peers. He Loves the Kansas City Chiefs! We choose happy is sending he and his family to a KC Game in the Fall!
